Chunox Village in the Corozal District is one of the most communities to receive major upgrades to its water system. Yesterday, the government held an inauguration ceremony for the newly renovated systems, improving the community’s access to clean and potable water. The project was done in partnership with the Ministry of Rural Transformation, the Belize Social Investment Fund, and the CARICOM Development Fund. Florencio Marin Jr, Corozal Southeast Area Representative, says the village previously depended on a single, unfiltered pump for water distribution, and unscored the benefits of upgrades.
Over the last couple of months, water systems in various rural communities have been upgraded through funding from the Belize Social Investment Fund (SIF). Carlos Tun, SIF’s Executive Director, spoke about the organization’s efforts to support national development and uplift rural communities.
Under the project, the village’s waterboard will be trained to maintain the system.
