Corozal Bay Prepares for Standard Bearer Convention Amidst Political Campaigns

Of the 31 divisions, Corozal Bay is the only one that will go to a standard bearer convention.  The convention date is set for July 14, and according to aspirant Thea Garcia-Ramirez her campaign was launched in May.  She stated in her opinion that the most effective way to bring change in the communities is through politics.

Thea Garcia Ramirez, PUP Corozal Bay Aspirant: “You have to be an advocate for the area that you represent for the constituency and I believe that there was more to be done in that area to advocate for resources to advocate for infrastructure projects and all sorts of projects. I think that was lacking and I think that more could have been done in that area. I believe that I can be a very strong advocate for Corozal because I love Corozal. No matter how far I go, I always come back. This is home. Everybody here is like family. I have a huge team because something like this is not done alone. It’s not a one-man show. I believe that politics is, electoral politics is one of maybe the most direct ways to effect change, which is what we’re trying to do here. There’s many ways to do it. There’s NGOs, which we have one of those. There’s just volunteering and that sort of thing. But through electoral politics, you have a really big opportunity and a more direct opportunity to effect change and to channel resources and it’s an advocacy of a different kind.”

Garcia-Ramirez will be challenging the current Area Representative, Elvia Vega-Samos.
