GOB Commences Establishment of Commission of Inquiry for Sugar Industry

The Government of Belize has commenced the establishment of its Commission of Inquiry into the modernization of the country’s sugar industry. As a part of the agreement brokered with the Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association (BSCFA) and the Belize Sugar Industries Limited/American Sugar Refinery Group (BSI/ASR), GOB has thirty days to set up the body. It will be tasked to look at the state of the vital sector and present its findings to the government. Prime Minister John Briceno spoke on the progress of the commission today and says that several proposed members have been identified.
