Government’s review of proposed constitutional reforms moved forward this week as Minister of Constitution and Religious Affairs, Indigenous Affairs and Transportation, Dr. Louis Zabaneh, met with former Chairs of the People’s Constitution Commission (PCC). The session formed part of the administration’s ongoing examination of the PCC Final Report and its recommendations for updating Belize’s Constitution. During the meeting, the former commissioners delivered a presentation outlining the Commission’s work, major themes identified during consultations, and key reform proposals emerging from the national process. Officials say the engagement allowed for clarification and open dialogue as the Ministry undertakes a structured assessment of the recommendations before determining the way forward. The Ministry noted that the discussion is one of several planned consultations with members of the PCC Executive as the review process continues. Also present at the meeting were Chief Executive Officer Chester Williams, Director of Constitution and Religious Affairs Ginéé Neal, Director of Policy, Planning and Research Anna Loague, along with former PCC Chairs Anthony Chanona, Arturo Lizarraga, Senator Glenfield Dennison, Josh Pott, and Maria Zabaneh. Government says the consultations are intended to ensure careful consideration of the proposals before any constitutional reform measures are finalized.
