Government Cracks Down on Price Gouging Amid Rising Inflation

The Government of Belize says it continues to take strong action against businesses caught gouging on store goods. The Supplies Control Unit, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, says it has been closely monitoring businesses across the country to minimize as much as possible.  Last year, dozens of merchants who were found guilty of unfairly inflating prices were ticketed and taken to court for the offense. The crackdown was carried out as part of the government’s efforts to assist consumers amid global inflation.  Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Jose Abelardo Mai spoke on the efforts and what else can be done to protect consumers.

The Supplies Control Unit has published the names of several businesses ticketed last year.
