Harmonyville Resident Killed in George Price Highway Collision

A man from the Harmonyville community in the Cayo District died on Saturday night in a road traffic incident on the George Price Highway. Twenty-year-old, Steven Tec, was riding his motorcycle just after seven o’clock when he reportedly collided with a Dodge pickup truck, driven by 22-year-old, Roy Williams. Williams was detained by police and voluntarily gave a blood sample to test for possible alcohol levels.  Officer Commanding the Eastern Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero says that Williams was arrested and charged as a result of the incident.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding, Eastern Division: “Police visited an area near Harmonyville where they saw a Dodge Ram pickup and a motorcycle extensively damaged. Police visited the hospital where Joel Teck was found and he was pronounced dead on arrival. Information is that he was on a motorcycle when he collided with the Dodge Ram pickup. The driver of that pickup was identified as Roy Williams. He has since been arrested and charged for manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct and drove motor vehicle without due care and attention.”

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding, Eastern Division: “The pickup apparently the driver lost some control and entered the lane and crashed in to the motorcycle.”

The Belmopan Football Association (BFA) issued a release this weekend referring to Tec as a revered member of its football family.  It added that, “Steven’s remarkable talent, unwavering dedication, and infectious enthusiasm endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His passing is a profound loss for the BFA and the entire football community.”
