Hattieville Resident Fined for Drug Possession, Grateful to Avoid Jail Time

47-year-old, Stephen Burnell Savery, was fined ten thousand dollars after pleading guilty on a drug charge.  Savery appeared unrepresented today at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court where he was read two counts of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply. The charge stems from an incident on Tuesday where members of the GI-3 Unit conducted a search of Savery’s home in the San Mateo area in San Pedro Town.  The operations led to the discovery of 936 grams of marijuana.  Outside the courthouse, Savery told Court Reporter Anita Nembhard that he was grateful that he was not sent to jail. Savery was given until March 31, 2025 to pay the fine.
