Health Concerns Are Raised As Smoke from Waste Station Persists

And, out west, the residents of Belmopan have been noticing smoke emanating from the waste transfer station for several days. They have raised concerns about the possible health hazard this could pose. The Minister of Sustainable Development, Orlando Habet also weighed in on this issue today. Minister Habet recently inherited the solid waste management portfolio from the Ministry of Natural Resources, which he says was experiencing major financial issues. He adds that his ministry is looking to see how they can reduce the amount of pollution that is being caused and dispose of waste in a safer manner.
