High Court Rules Belizean Man Must Stand Trial for 2020 Murder: Alibi Defense Challenged

The High Court of Belize has ruled that thirty-seven-year-old, Rodman Welch has a case to answer to with respect to the 2020 murder of Shakeem Dennison.Earlier today, Justice Nigel Pilgrim ruled against the no-case submission filed by Welch’s attorney, Orson Elrington. Justice Pilgrim also admitted the caution statement that Welch gave into evidence. Welch’s defense in the trial is that of an alibi, and he gave sworn testimony that he was at home on October 12, 2020, when Dennison was killed. He also testified that he had just come home from dropping a friend off at the bus terminal when his girlfriend told him that someone had been shot in the area so he should remain indoors.
