Iris Centeno Appointed as First Female Director of Belize’s National Sports Council

A new director for the National Sports Council has been named.  Iris Centeno is succeeding Ian Cal who recently demitted office.  Centeno is no stranger to the sporting arena as she also wears the hat for the Women’s Director at the Football Federation of Belize.  Centeno is the first woman to be named as Sports Director.  Speaking on the appointment was Minister of Sports, Rodwell Ferguson Senior.

Centeno is known for her contributions to sports in Belize on the field as an athlete and off the field as head coach of the National Women’s Football team. She took up office on Friday June 16. Cal was Sports Council Director from March 2021, but his contract expired at the end of March this year. He stayed on as the head of the council until his successor could be found.
