A Ladyville resident is behind bars after being convicted of harming his own aunt during a family dispute, an incident that escalated into violence inside the woman’s home. Thirty-year-old Lionel Nigel Joseph Logan was sentenced to one month imprisonment for the offense of harm after pleading guilty in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court. Logan was also ordered to serve an additional two and a half months for outstanding unpaid fines, bringing his total sentence to three and a half months imprisonment. Logan appeared before the Chief Magistrate yesterday where he was charged with intentionally and unlawfully causing harm to his aunt, 43-year-old babysitter Vinett Myles, during an altercation at her Ladyville residence. According to the facts presented in court, the incident occurred on Friday, January 23, following a dispute over personal items. Logan told the court that his aunt had instructed him to move out of her house, prompting him to remove what he claimed were his belongings, including a television, refrigerator, and a fan. Despite entering a guilty plea, Logan maintained that he never intentionally harmed his aunt. However, in her report to police, Myles stated that her nephew became aggressive during the argument, unplugged a fan, threatened to damage property, and later struck her on the left arm with the fan, causing her to fall against a door frame and suffer pain to her lower back. Police were called shortly after, and Logan was arrested and charged. The court noted that this was Logan’s seventh conviction, with two convictions recorded within the past six months. In addition to the harm sentence, the magistrate ordered Logan to serve time in default of payment for a prior drug-related offense involving possession of a pipe, as well as two traffic offenses. All sentences were ordered to run consecutively. Logan was remanded to prison immediately following sentencing and will serve his time at the Belize Central Prison.///////
