Media personnel from across the country were given a guided tour this afternoon of the newly renovated National Assembly Building on Independence Hill in Belmopan. The walkthrough was organized by Speaker of the House Valerie Woods, who provided an overview of the upgrades currently nearing completion. Although renovations are ongoing, members of the media were offered a firsthand look at several improvements. The public gallery has been upgraded to accommodate 102 persons with more comfortable seating, replacing the hard wooden benches previously in use. Two flat-screen televisions will also be installed in the gallery to facilitate educational visits, particularly for students seeking to learn about the history of the building and the operations of Parliament. To improve accessibility, elevators have been added on both sides of the building, and restroom facilities are now available on all floors, addressing longstanding concerns about mobility and convenience. The renovated National Assembly Building is scheduled to officially open on February 2, in time for a ceremonial state visit by the President of Guyana. Speaker Woods expressed confidence that the remaining work will be completed ahead of the scheduled event. For now, we were unable to bring you images of the works in progress, but we will have that available when the new National Assembly building is inaugurated
