Minister of Home Affairs says Jervis Valencia was targeted by men hell-bent on breaking the law

Investigators are working to levy charges against a Belize City man who opened fire on several members of the Leadership Intervention Unit (LIU) yesterday. Around 11:30, 41-year-old Jervis Diamond Valencia and a group of men were walking on Logwood Street when they were approached by a lone gunman who appeared from a nearby alley. The gunman opened fire on the group, shooting Valencia in the leg. The shooting incident has raised many concerns for the police given that it followed an event held by the LIU. Minister of Home Affairs, Kareem Musa, says that by all accounts Valencia is a reformed man who is being targeted by men hell-bent on breaking the law.
