Outrage As Video Surfaces of Stepfather Abusing Child

A video was uploaded to social media today that exposed a stepfather abusing a child on two separate occasions. The assault spurred outrage from members of the public, calling for a harsh penalty that unfortunately was not had.  The stepfather has been identified as a security guard attached to the National Sports Council.  We join our News Director, Renee Trujillo for a look at the video.

Renee Trujillo, News Director, Love News: “The callousness and cruelty of a stepfather was caught on camera in Belize City. 33 year old Delvain Flores, Security Guard at the National Sports Council is the guy on this motorcycle. He flings the child off the bike, slaps him in the head, proceeds to kick him to the pavement. As if that were not enough cruelty for the child heading to school Flores then proceed to pick up the child and continue with his assault. The mother appears in the camera’s view to confront the stepfather as the child cries. The video is then joined with another incident caught on camera. It is uncertain when the two cases occurred as we are yet to find out who was behind the camera. In the second incident the stepfather is seen assaulting the child, slapping him in the head, hitting him with a rag over and over and clearly demoralizing the little boy. It is a heart breaking attack on a child who remained near the stepfather despite the hits he was taking.”

Flores was arrested through the Domestic Violence Unit.  He was taken to court today and was arraigned on a charge of common assault.  We were told that no other charge could have been levied against the stepfather as the child had no bruises or physical injuries.  Flores was granted bail of one thousand dollars on the condition that he is not to go near the family nor should he interfere with the victim and his family.  Love News was reliably informed that the guardian was reluctant to file a complaint but was pressured to do so after the video went viral.  Minister of Human Development, and Families, Dolores Balderamos Garcia has expressed outrage at the abuse.  She noted that the person who took the video should have alerted the authorities of the situation.
