Pinks Alley Resident Fined for Assaulting Police Officer During Drumming Event

Pinks Alley resident, Steven Barrington Flowers Jr., was fined in court today after pleading guilty to a charge of assaulting a police officer. Flowers appeared unrepresented before Chief Magistrate, Jayani Wegodapola. During his guilty plea he told the court that he did not intentionally assault Police Constable Kenan Yearwood, and that it was a reflex action that caused him to push the officer. For his early guilty plea, the Chief Magistrate spared Flowers the usual starting point of a thousand dollars for a conviction of the offense and charged him five hundred dollars plus five dollars cost of court. He needs to pay his fine by February 28, 2024, or he will face five months in prison. On Saturday, November 18, Flowers was at a drumming event and said that someone approached him menacingly. He said he reacted by pushing the person.
