Police Commissioner Recognizes Outstanding Women Officers in Belize

Police Commissioner Chester Williams recognized three women of the department this morning in a ceremony geared at celebrating women.  Corporal Mirna Pena was named Woman Police Officer 2023 for the northern region, Corporal Carmela Cacho was selected from the southern region, and Shanice Bevans from the Eastern Division.  On a national scale, Corporal Cacho was doubly awarded as Police Woman of the Year for the entire country.  According to the Commissioner, the event forms part of his efforts to usher in a cultural shift in the department, where the work of women police officers is recognized.

Williams noted that promotions are still a controversial issue between male and female officers despite the exceptional work that the women have been doing.

The event occurred inside the Training Room at Precinct Three on Queen Street. The officers were accompanied by their regional commanders.//////
