Police Department Investigating Officer’s Domestic Violence Allegations

Police Commissioner Chester Williams says that the department is looking into allegations made by Police Constable Kylee Joseph earlier this week in our newscast.  PC Joseph came out to our court reporter, claiming that she is a victim of domestic violence and that her colleagues have refused to assist her in arresting her common-law husband.  It turns out that the story is far more complex than meets the eye.  Commissioner Williams was a bit hesitant to talk about it, but would only say that he is ensuring that the officer gets access to the help needed.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I don’t know much of that matter. I did see the interview she gave to the media and I have since made some inquiries of the commander in the Ladyville area and from what I am told, I don’t want to go into too much details because I don’t want to make it seem as if we’re trying to downplay what might be happening but the woman officer in question there is some issues that we’re trying to address with her and we’re hoping that we’ll be able to address those issues and see what level of help we can offer to her. It’s a tough one I must say. Like I said I don’t want to say much because there is certain things that I will not divulge to the media where the officer is concerned. We’re trying to see who we can deal with it internally and give her whatever help that she needs to be able to overcome her current situation that she’s going through. Well certainly as a department we are service oriented and whether you like the caller or not or the content of the caller’s calls we have a duty to ensure that we respond to every call that comes to the police station. And so if it is that there is indeed evidence that she had called the police for assistance and the police did not respond then certainly that’s a matter we have to address. Whether she was a police or not we have to ensure that we take every call that comes from the public seriously and do what is expected of us to do as police in response to those calls.”

Further investigation into the story indicates that the common-law-husband is the one who has made claims of domestic abuse, and that he has been working with PC Joseph to get the help she needs.
