Police Officer Charged With Murder in Ladyville Killing

Police have confirmed a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of Shackkeem Ferguson, a twenty-six-year-old laborer and resident of Ladyville, Belize District who was fatally shot on January 25.  Authorities announced that earlier this evening, following intensive investigative work, Kenroy Rudolph Allen Jr., a twenty-four-year-old Belizean police officer of Lord’s Bank Village, was formally arrested and charged with the crime of murder in connection with Ferguson’s death.  Police say the charge highlights what they describe as decisive action by investigators, stressing that the department proceeded promptly once evidence allegedly implicated one of its own officers. Officials added that the development demonstrates a commitment to accountability and reinforces the message that the law applies equally to everyone, regardless of profession.  Ferguson’s killing sent shockwaves through the Ladyville community, and tonight’s announcement marks a major step forward in the case as authorities seek justice for the slain laborer and his family.  Allen is expected to be arraigned before the court shortly, while the investigation remains active as police continue to gather evidence related to the fatal shooting.
