PUP Announces Additional Standard Bearer Convention for Corozal North

Initially, we told you that the PUP would only be having one standard bearer convention.  It turns out, however, that Corozal North will also go to convention.  The two candidates for Corozal North are David Castillo and Dr. Einstein Bodden.  Both conventions are slated for July 14 in the respective divisions.  Upon the release of the PUP’s decisions, one of those that stood out was the case of City Councilor Allan Pollard.  Pollard was the politician who was on the rise in 2020 when he garnered 42 percent of the votes in the Queen’s Square division.  His popularity soared since then and had once again topped the polls in this year’s municipals.  Between March and now, however, Pollard seemingly made a series of misguided decisions including the challenge against Mayor Bernard Wagner, and the ditching of the Queen’s Square constituency.  Speaking candidly on the issue was Mayor Bernard Wagner.

As Pollard is now forced to complete his term at City Council, his colleague Kaya Cattouse will be entering national politics next year in the Albert Division.  Interestingly, if Kaya loses in the general elections next year, she will remain a city councilor.  According to Mayor Wagner the City Council Act does not require for Kaya to resign from the council to run in the general elections.
