Senior Citizen Spared Prison Time in Firearm Offense Case

Today, a Senior Citizen who is employed as a security guard was spared prison time after being charged with firearm offense. Seventy-year-old, Jose Lopez was charged with one count of kept unlicensed ammunition for having the wrong types of cartridges for his licensed shotgun. Lopez appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, represented by two senior attorneys Hubert Elrington and Norman Rodriguez. The attorneys successfully argued that despite the stipulations in the Firearms Act, Lopez did not have to go to jail. Here’s how Rodriguez explained their submissions.
