The Senior Courts of Belize have received a significant boost to their legal resources, thanks to a generous donation from the International Law Book Facility (ILBF). Chief Justice, Louise Esther Blenman, announced the arrival of over 124 law books, a donation set to significantly enhance judicial scholarship and the administration of justice within the nation. The ILBF, a London-based charity dedicated to promoting the rule of law and access to justice, facilitated the donation. The organization, managed by its Chief Executive and a team of dedicated volunteers, including Patrons, Trustees, and its Operating Committee, aims to provide vital legal research materials to jurisdictions in need. The timing of the shipment proved particularly opportune, coinciding with a Judicial Education Institute seminar focusing on Sentencing Guidelines, Judgment Writing, and Evidence. This seminar, aimed at enhancing the expertise of judges and magistrates through continued education, benefited greatly from the newly arrived resources. Dame Linda Dobbs, DBE, a distinguished jurist, judicial educator, and patron of the ILBF, personally presented the books to Chief Justice Blenman. The destruction of the Supreme Court library by Hurricane Lisa had created a significant gap in available legal resources. The ILBF’s timely donation has been instrumental in restoring access to these essential materials.
