Throughout today’s voting process, Police Commissioner Chester Williams was seen making his rounds at the polling stations. He noted that with the division being a peaceful area, there was no need to bring additional boots from the other districts.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “The police working election duties is nothing new to us. We know what our duties and responsibilities are. And yes, we are not going to allow ourselves to be caught up into the political hype of the persons who are coming out to vote but rather to make sure that we just preserve law and order. Again, it is important that the democratic process that we have in Belize in terms of selecting our representatives goes through in a peaceful manner and so that’s what the police is here to do. Yes, I will remain in Punta Gorda Town for the rest of the election process including the counting so I will be spending the night in Punta Gorda town tonight again and will leave from there tomorrow. The elections is being policed by officers from within this area. We just brought down members of the Specialized Unit from SPU to assist in certain areas so we didn’t have to bring in a number of police officers to assist now.”
