Son of Police Academy Cook Charged in Attack on Commissioner’s Home

The son of one of the cooks for the Belize Police Training Academy has been charged in connection with Tuesday night’s attack on the Police Commissioner’s house in Belmopan.  21-year-old Threvane Thomas has been charged with aggravated assault. He is only one of the four persons believed to have carried out the blatant and brazen shooting.  In a previous report, we noted our observation of the government’s silence on the unprecedented attack on the commissioner’s house.  This afternoon, however, Prime Minister John Briceno, in a 15-second comment, has condemned the act against the commissioner.

John Briceno, Prime Minister of Belize:“This kind of behavior should not be tolerated for anybody, for any citizen be it the Commissioner or be you as reporter or anyone. I think that’s a no no and we need to stop that immediately.”
