UDP Demands Accountability After Drugs Found on Minister Andre Perez’s Private Boat

The opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) is condemning the police department and the Minister of Home Affairs, Kareem Musa, for what they say is preferential treatment, after drugs were found on a minister’s private boat. (UDP ON PEREZ). The UDP issued a statement calling for greater investigation and action by police in light of 474 grams of cocaine being found on a boat belonging to Minister of Blue Economy Andre Perez last Friday. The UDP, stated, quote, “It is deeply concerning that while an ordinary Belizean would face rigorous interrogation and likely legal charges in such a situation, Minister Perez appears to receive immunity from the scrutiny and consequences that would befall any other citizen. This double standard not only erodes public trust in our law enforcement but also raises serious questions about accountability among those in positions of power,” End of quote. The party called on the Commissioner of Police Chester Williams to uphold the law with impartiality and also called on the public to advocate for equal application of the law. Yesterday, Commissioner Williams told the media that the drugs were a part of a “wet drop” and were placed on the minister’s boat without his knowledge or consent. Williams said that there was no evidence to link the minister to the drugs, but that police are seeking one suspect who they believe is responsible for the drugs being stashed on the boat.
