Belize’s Under 17 Basketball Team Secures Bronze in FIBA Centrobasket Championship

Belize’s Under 17 Basketball Team made history over the weekend, by securing the bronze in the FIBA under 17 Centrobasket Championship 2023. The team put on extraordinary performances, winning against Panama and Jamaica, but losing to Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic before besting Mexico for the Bronze.  Placing in the tournament means that the team will be representing the country at the Champions of the Americas competition next year. Basketball Federation of Belize President Jacob Leslie told Love News how proud he was of the team.

Leslie said that the team will need to go through rigorous preparation for the competition next year, as he wants to ensure that they do more than just show up.

Over the weekend Prime Minister John Briceno took to social media to congratulate the team on their performance and called on all Belizeans to join him in celebrating the team’s efforts.
