Elections and Boundaries Department Conducts Mobile Voter Registrations in Remote Areas

As the general elections loom, the Elections and Boundaries Department has mobilized teams to travel to the remote areas for new voter registrations.  According to the Chief Elections Officer, Josephine Tamai, the mobile registrations are done especially in areas where it may be difficult for persons to reach our offices to apply to register. Additionally, the department is in possession of thousands of ID cards that electors have not picked up.  Tamai noted that with this year being an election year, they are trying to reach out more to persons who qualify to vote to give them an opportunity to be able to vote in all elections.  In this vein, a team of officers from the Elections and Boundaries Department will be visiting San Antonio Village, Toledo on Thursday.  The team will be accepting applications for voter registration and delivering voter identification cards for persons from nineteen rural communities. For new registrations, residents are reminded to bring valid original documents to facilitate the registration process. The required documents include a Belizean birth certificate or Belize nationality certificate, accompanied by a Social Security Card or a photograph certified, stamped, and signed by a Justice of the Peace; a Belizean passport; or a Commonwealth passport for Commonwealth citizens.
