Police are still investigating the death of Wendy Mendez, a woman who passed away days after arriving at the hospital with visible injuries. Initial reports suggested that she had been attacked by her husband, potentially leading to her demise. However, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams clarified that there is no evidence to support that claim at this time.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “We’re still awaiting the post mortem examination to be conducted and once that is done we’ll be able to ascertain the definitive cause of death and then we go from there. I don’t know if there is any evidence to the fact that the husband had beaten her, we’re still investigating how she got the injuries that she exhibited when she got to the hospital.”

Reporter: Is the husband cooperating with you all ?

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I believe that he has been interviewed by the police in Corozal yes but there was nothing of substance obtained during the interview.”

It is to be noted that Commissioner Williams’ comments contradict yesterday’s release issued by the Special Envoy which has noted domestic violence as a contributing factor to Guzman’s death.
