Robert Usher is looking at the next twenty seven years in prison for raping a minor between the period, September 2010 and 2019. Today, Usher, who is 34-years-old, was given twenty one years and eleven months for three counts of rape; and five years for aggravated assault and sexual assault. Usher was found guilty on November 25 after the victim testified that she was only eight years old when Usher began touching her inappropriately. The victim noted in her testimony that it was back in 2010 that the abuse began and the sexual advances continued until she turned 13 years old, which is when Usher proceeded to rape her. The victim, who is now 22 years old, testified in court that she had told her mother of the rape but nothing was done. It wasn’t until the third rape incident that the child confided in an aunt who then took the matter to the authorities. During today’s sentencing, Justice Candice Nanton took into consideration several mitigating factors from character witnesses, as well as the fact that this is Usher’s first rape conviction. After sentencing, Usher was taken to the Belize Central Prison to begin serving his sentence.
