Sandhill Resident Remanded for Ladyville Murder

Thirty-five-year-old Sandhill resident Jamie Young has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison over the murder in Ladyville last weekend. Young was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this morning, one count of murder for the fatal shooting of Damion Baptist, and one count of Aggravated Assault against Laneedrah Dawson. On Saturday, March 16, Young reportedly engaged in a high-speed car chase through Ladyville, which ended with Baptist being shot in the head and crashing into a lamp post near Our Lady of the Way RC School. Young had been on the run since then and was only apprehended by police last night. Young and Dawson were ex-lovers, and police believe that the murder was linked to their previous relationship.
