Accused Triple Murderer Expresses Fear for Life Amidst Trial Proceedings

Another major issue discussed at this morning’s trial was a complaint by accused triple murderer Elmer Nah, who says he is in fear for his life. Nah, through his attorney Lindon Jones, informed the court that he had an exchange with one of the officers assigned to transport him to and from the Belize Central Prison. Nah says that the officer is an inspector involved in his trial for the triple murder in Belmopan. During the exchange, Nah alleges that the inspector said things to him that made him feel unsafe.  Attorney Richard Dickie Bradley weighed in on the issue, calling it a serious matter that needs to be addressed.

Richard “Dickie” Bradley, Attorney: “They should take it very seriously because we’ve gone through another blood weekend in our country where clearly as we’re coming to the end of Lent the devil is not going to take a rest when Lent is over. We are living in violent times. A prisoner gets up and says to the court “I don’t feel safe because officer so and so is telling me certain things I don’t feel safe.” that is a very serious matter and the Senior Magistrate took it seriously but I’m sorry I beg to disagree that’s a matter that should have been dealt with right away. A prisoner does not feel safe in the presences of you know G13 is just a change of name from the GSU, they have a bad bad history in this country. In fact the man who is complaining he ought to know he was GSU. It’s not a matter to take lightly I’m hoping that the attorney will in fact make arrangements for him to give a quick hand written statement and take it in or he as the attorney can take it in. It’s a very very serious matter.”

Magistrate Baja Shoman encouraged Jones to file a formal complaint with the Professional Standards branch of the Belize Police Department and to report the matter to the court again if the issue persists. Elmer Nah is due back in court with respect to the murder of Jon, David, and Vivian Ramnarace on April 10.
